Academy Closure – Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th June 2026
Dear Parents/Carers
I am writing to inform you that, due to the current period of exceptionally high temperatures and the red weather warning issued by the met office, the Academy will be closing on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th June 2026, re-opening on Friday 26th June 2026 in order to ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of our students and staff.
We have taken this decision following careful consideration, as high indoor temperatures can make learning difficult and pose health risks, particularly for younger children and anyone with underlying health conditions. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as soon as conditions improve.
We will remain open tomorrow (Tuesday 23rd June) and in the spirit of clear communication, the plan will run as previously communicated. ALL STUDENTS can wear PE kits on Tuesday 23rd June. Years 8 and 9 are on site, Year 7 follow remote home learning and Year 10 attend only for their mock exams.
This closure means that the following calendared events will not take place and will be rescheduled:
- Academy Awards Evening – Thursday 25th June – we will be contacting relevant families soon with an alternative date for this event to take place once we know the guest speaker’s availability.
- Year 10 Mock Exams – Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th June – these will be rescheduled for the following week on Monday 29th & Tuesday 30th June – Timetable to follow.
- Year 10 Aspiring Futures Day will run on Friday 26th June for Year 10 students as planned, please select your subject pathway.
Keeping Children Safe and Cool at Home
During this period of hot weather, we recommend the following steps to help keep your child comfortable and safe:
- Stay hydrated:Encourage your child to drink plenty of water throughout the day.
- Keep indoors during peak heat:Avoid outdoor activities between 11am and 3pm where possible.
- Create a cool environment:Keep curtains/blinds closed in sunny rooms and open windows in the early morning or evening to allow cooler air to circulate.
- Dress appropriately:Loose, light-coloured clothing is best in hot weather.
- Use sunscreen: Apply a high-factor sunscreen if your child is outside and reapply regularly.
- Rest and quiet activities: Encourage calm indoor activities to prevent overheating.
Please also remain vigilant for signs of heat-related illness, such as headaches, dizziness, or unusual tiredness, and seek medical advice if needed.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time, if you have any queries please contact the Academy.
Yours sincerely
Ms Kath Cooper | Senior Principal
