Christmas Food Bank and Toy Appeal

Dear Parents/Carers

We are again organising collections both for the local food banks in the Kingswood and Bristol area, and a Christmas Gift Appeal for The Salvation Army.

The local food banks are now a lifeline for many local adults and children who otherwise may go hungry.  This is for many reasons, from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill; this is especially hard at Christmas time for many families, and this year in particular as a result of COVID:19.

We would like to collect in-date non-perishable items at the Academy to support the Kingswood Branch of the food bank which is run by the Trussell Trust.   Any donations can be brought to the Academy between Tuesday 1st and Thursday 3rd December.  There will be a box outside of the reception area for these collections.

Please see below the list of items that the food bank would like us to collect.

  • Mince Pies
  • Tinned Ham
  • Sponge Puddings
  • Christmas/Festive Cakes
  • Box of Biscuits
  • Tomatoes (tinned)
  • Cereals
  • Rice Pudding (tinned)
  • Tea Bags/Instant Coffee
  • Instant Mash Potato
  • Rice/Pasta
  • Tinned Meat/Fish
  • Tinned Fruit
  • Jam
  • Biscuits or Snack Bar
  • Milk (UHT or Powdered)
  • Sugar (500g)
  • Soup
  • Pasta Sauces
  • Tinned Peas/Carrots
  • Stuffing for Chicken
  • Gravy Granules
  • Long life Apple/Orange Juice
  • Cheese Crackers
  • Instant Hot Chocolate
  • Shower Gel

In addition to the above, we are also supporting The Salvation Army Christmas present appeal.  If you are able to donate a Christmas gift then we will distribute these gifts to the local Salvation Army.  We believe every child deserves a new gift at Christmas so we are unable to take used or second hand items for the Christmas Present Appeal.  The suggested Gift list for Children and Young People is as follows:

  • 0-3 years:  dolls, teddy bears, cot mobiles, baby clothes, bath toys, CDs of suitable music and nursery rhymes, puzzles
  • 3-5 years: dolls and action figures, cars, lorries, DVDs and CDs (music and nursery rhymes), colouring sets, pencils, crayons, books, puzzles
  • 5-9 years: educational games & toys, stationery (colouring sets, pencils, crayons, school sets), CDs & family friendly DVDs, books, puzzles, wordsearch, crosswords
  • 9-12 years: games and toys, stationery, CDs, DVDs, books, T-Shirts, hair accessories, gloves, scarves, hats
  • 13-16 years: CDs, DVDs, books, make-up and toiletries (please try to ensure non-allergic ingredients if possible), gloves, scarves, hats, T-Shirts, hair accessories

These collections are being supported by the Heads of House and the Pastoral team.  We would appreciate your support in these collections to help those local families during the festive season.

With warmest wishes at Christmas.
