End of Term 6 Letter

Dear Parents / Carers, 

As we approach the end of another academic year, I would like to share some key information to help prepare you and our children with the changes that will arise due to staff leaving the Academy to pursue new roles and further their careers.  

Working in Hanham Woods Academy is an absolute privilege, to lead and support our young people and provide the best chance of success for their futures. Whilst there have been some challenges to overcome and work through, we hold an unwavering commitment to ensure our children receive the best provision. Whilst we have some staff leaving, and we wish them well in their next venture, we also welcome some amazing new colleagues into the Academy.  

This recruitment drive has been a huge success as we have secured subject specialists that will deliver a quality scheme of learning across all subjects and all Year Groups. This success has removed the need to use supply teachers for the next academic year (except when staff are unwell).  I am looking forward to having a settled staff structure and strong delivery for our students to aim high in their academic achievement.

Students will be introduced to their new tutor over the last few days where current staff in the Academy have been matched. Our new colleagues will meet their tutees in September.  

THANK YOU to you, the parents/carers for the support, feedback and challenge you have provided throughout my first 3 months at Hanham. I look forward to building our partnership across next year to achieve the success for our students they deserve. 

I will be sharing a separate update regarding the current position with the NEU and any potential further industrial action once I have met them this week.  

I hope you have a wonderful summer break when it arrives (please see end of term arrangements below) and I look forward to welcoming students back to the Academy in September. 

 

End of Term 6 Arrangements 

  • Monday 20th July – normal Academy Day – all students expected to attend in PE kit or Academy uniform.  
  • Tuesday 21st July – Last day of Term 6, to include normal lessons up to the end of period 4 with a 2pm early finish for students – all students expected to attend in PE kit or Academy uniform. 
    • Tutor groups will hold their farewell for the summer in the morning session 8.35am -9.05am.  
    • Staff will say goodbye for the summer at 2.10-3.10pm.  

September 2026 – Start of Term Arrangements 

I can confirm what the first few days will entail and when students will return to the Academy in September 2026: 

  • Monday 7th September: All students return to the Academy. Timetables will be available  to students and found on MCAS from the 1st September.  
    • Year 7 arrive at 08:30am – Session 1&2  Tutor groups, session  3,4,5 timetabled subject lessons introductory lessons (no PE Kit required)  
    • Years 8 to 11 at 10:15am- Session 2 Tutor Groups , session  3,4,5 timetabled normal subject lessons
