Extreme Heat Adjustments - Hanham Woods Academy

Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s),

Due to the forecast of extremely high temperatures, students will be permitted to attend the Academy in their PE kit on Thursday and Friday to help ensure their comfort and wellbeing during the school day.

Students should wear the correct Academy PE kit and bring a refillable water bottle. We also encourage students to apply sunscreen before arriving at school and to bring a hat for use during break and lunchtime if they wish.

Please note that a separate communication will be sent to Year 10 parents/carers regarding the business interviews and the required dress code for those students.

The Academy will also be putting additional mitigations in place to ensure the safety of students and staff:

Where appropriate, room changes will be made to locate learning to cooler spaces
Students will be encouraged and directed to use the shade areas across the site during social times
Students will be encouraged to refill water bottles during lesson changeover, break and lunch times. Please ensure your child is in possession of a refillable bottle.
The curriculum will be adjusted to ensure a reduction in physical activity, e.g adjusted PE activities, No cooking in DT
