Meningitis Safety Reminder: Vaccination Information for Parents
Dear Parents/carers
Following recent news reports of several meningitis cases in Kent, including two tragic deaths, Public Health officials are reminding all parents and students of the importance of the Meningitis (MenACWY) vaccination. This vaccine is routinely offered to all students in Year 9 through the school immunisation programme.
We strongly encourage all parents to respond promptly to the invitation and consent process, which will be sent by the School Age Immunisation Service (Sirona) in the coming weeks.
In Bristol, around 35% of older students (Years 10 to 13) have not yet received their MenACWY vaccination. Please check your child’s vaccination record and book an appointment if they have missed this immunisation.
How to book:
- Years 10 to 13:
Email sirona.sch-imms@nhs.net or call 0300 1245 515 - Years 12 or 13 (and individuals up to age 25):
Appointments can also be booked via your child’s GP
Meningitis is uncommon but can be very serious. In many cases it can be prevented through timely vaccination, which is safe, effective, and widely available.
