Poetry Live – Bath Forum – Monday 22nd January 2024
Dear Parent/Carer,
We will be running a trip to see ‘GCSE Poetry Live’ on Monday 22nd January 2024, and would like to offer your child the opportunity to take part in this visit.
The event involves various poets reading and discussing their poetry from the AQA GCSE Anthology. This Anthology is a set text for the GCSE English Literature Paper 2 (Modern Texts and Poetry) exam. This event would therefore be a very useful preparation for all Year 10 students who would like to explore the poems in more depth. The poets taking part in the event include Simon Armitage, Carol Ann Duffy and John Agard, all of whom feature in the AQA Anthology. We are very fortunate to be able to get tickets for this touring event but as tickets are limited (30) and will be allocated to those on a first come, first served basis.
The performance starts at 10.45am, and we will leave by coach from the Academy at 9.30am. We will be returning at the end of the performance and should be back at Hanham Woods Academy by 3.45pm. Pupils will need to wear full school uniform and bring a packed lunch. Students must conform to Academy rules throughout the trip and must under no circumstances leave the venue unless instructed to by a member of staff.
Voluntary contributions are necessary if this visit is to take place. The amount required in order to fund this visit is £30.00 per student. No student will be omitted from the visit should the voluntary contribution not be paid. However, we do need to cover the financial costs of the trip and if the cost is not covered, the trip will be cancelled.
