Sparx Maths (Year 7 Only)
Dear Parents/Carers,
The Maths Department are delighted to introduce you to Sparx Maths, the online platform that will be used for Maths Homework to support your child.
Sparx Maths delivers personalised homework tailored to both students’ current and prior learning and has been successfully used by Hanham Woods Academy for the last two and a half years. It has been proven to boost both active participation and also grades come examinations.
What Do You Need to Know?
- The website is https://www.sparxmaths.uk/ and students will be having a trial next week during a Maths lesson. The link here will give you a clearer insight: https://rb.gy/u2q8sh
- Homework will go live every Wednesday at 4pm with a deadline of the following Wednesday at 9am.
- Each homework should take approximately 30-40 minutes to complete. This may vary slightly initially while the system adjusts to each student.
- Homework will continue to focus around the work recently covered in class (60%) with some questions based on prior learning making up the other 40%.
- Homework is only complete when they have achieved 100% completion on the compulsory task. Videos for every question they attempt are provided to aid their learning and ensure homework is fully complete.
- No detentions will be given in the first week for incomplete / non-completion to allow any issues to be addressed.
How can you best support your child to complete their homework?
- You will receive a weekly email from Sparx updating you on the homework progress of your child. Please encourage and remind your child to complete it before the Thursday deadline each week.
- If your child is struggling with a particular question, there is a help video for every problem. Actively promote them to use this if it is needed before you lend a hand if required!
- Encourage your child to attend After Academy Sparx catch up club. The day allocated for this is yet to be confirmed but we will keep your child informed when a final decision is made. The Maths team are always happy to assist on any lunchtime if this is better than at the end of the Academy day.
We will be running weekly competitions both within each Maths class and across the Year Group with prizes available to students who achieve the most points!
