Y10 PPE – January 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
Re – Y10 PPE – January 2026
Students in Year 10 will be completing their first round of Pre Public Examinations (PPE’s also known as ‘mock exams’) when they return to the Academy after Christmas, the week commencing 12th January.
Most subjects will complete assessments during their regular lessons. However, Maths, English, and Science examinations will take place in designated examination rooms across the academy. This arrangement is designed to replicate the formal set-up students will experience at the end of Year 10 and into Year 11, providing valuable preparation for future examinations.
A complete copy of the Core exam schedule is shared below for your reference.
| Date | Exam | Duration |
| 13th January (9:00am) | English Language | 1 hour 45 minutes |
| 13th January (1:00pm) | Maths (Calculator paper) | 1 hour 30 minutes |
| 14th January (9:00am) | Maths (non Calculator paper) | 1 hour |
| 14th January (1:00pm) | Combined Science | 1 hour 10 minutes |
Note – The 2nd Maths exam is shorter as some elements of the curriculum are not covered until year 11 and so we do not examine this area at this time.
What happens next?
Your child will have an exams assembly on their first week back after Christmas. At this assembly, they will receive their examination timetable, which will include the subject, exam duration, and details of the room and seat allocated to them.
What can I do to help prepare my child?
- Double check that your child has all of the necessary equipment at home. Pens, pencils, ruler, calculator (for Maths and Science) as well as a protractor and compass for Maths.
- Students are receiving a list of topics to focus upon for Maths. Please encourage your child to do some independent work on Sparx on these areas.
- Be supportive and take an interest in their exams. They are an important period of time in year 10 and it is important that your child engages with the assessments and that they feel supported both in and out of school to get the best possible results.
When will I know their results?
Students will find out their results in lessons towards the end of January/start of February. Following this, they will engage in feedback activities to reflect on their performance, both in lessons and through homework tasks.
Will I have an opportunity to discuss results and progress with staff?
Yes. The best time to do this will be at the Year 10 Parents’ Evening on Thursday, 12th February 2025.
In the meantime, if you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards and have a wonderful Christmas.
