Year 7 homework – Terms 5 and 6

Dear Parent/Carer

Following a period of consultation, I am writing to share an overview of our Year 7 homework approach for Terms 5 and 6, and to inform you about the support available to help students manage their homework effectively.

Homework plays an important role in helping students reinforce their learning, develop strong study habits, and build independence. It is designed to help students remember key knowledge over time, practise important skills, and prepare for future learning. Our approach reflects our school values of Dream Big, Work Hard, and Be Kind.

In Terms 5 and 6, different subjects will set homework in different ways. This includes online reading and maths practice via Sparx, quizzes in subjects such as Science, PRE, and Geography, vocabulary learning in French, Spanish and PSHE, and termly projects in History. Teachers will monitor completion and will contact home where needed. Subjects will provide printed resources for students without online access.

Where homework is weekly or fortnightly, it will be set on the following days:

  • Monday – RS & French
  • Tuesday – Science and Geography
  • Wednesday – Maths Sparx
  • Thursday – Spanish
  • Friday – English Sparx Reader

To support students further, we will offer a weekly Homework Support Session every Thursday from 3:05pm to 4:00pm in IT1. All students are welcome to attend to receive support, use a computer, or simply work in a quiet space.

Thank you for your ongoing support. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Yours faithfully,

Mr. A. Bringhurst | Associate Assistant Principal
