Hanham Woods student reaches Everest Base Camp

While many people put their feet up over the Easter break, one year 10 student at Hanham Woods Academy instead completed an amazing physical feat.

Sam Pickett successfully completed a trek to Everest Base Camp in Nepal – an incredible physical and mental challenge, which took him to an altitude of approximately 5,350 metres.

Over the course of the two-week trek, Sam showed remarkable resilience in overcoming a number of significant adversities, including temperatures as low as -25°C, snowstorms, and managing an injury along the way.

Despite these challenges, he remained determined and committed, ultimately reaching Everest Base Camp.

According to available records, this achievement makes Sam the youngest person from Bristol to complete the Everest Base Camp trek.

It is something he has worked incredibly hard towards and is a reflection of his determination, perseverance, and positive mindset.

Sam said on achieving this amazing milestone: “I’m really proud to have reached Everest Base Camp.

“It was one of the toughest things I’ve ever done, especially with the cold and the injury, but I just kept focusing on taking one step at a time.

“The support I had along the way made a huge difference, and it’s an experience I’ll never forget.”

An academy spokesperson said: “We are incredibly proud of Sam and this outstanding achievement.

“His determination, resilience, and commitment truly embody the values we strive to instil in all our students.

“Sam has shown what can be accomplished with hard work and a positive mindset, and he is an inspiration to the entire school community.”
