What happens if my child loses their timetable?

Spare copies have been printed. Tutors all have a spare copy as well as another being available from the year 11 office.

How can I best support my child to prepare for these exams?

  • Ensure there is a dedicated, quiet, distraction free space for them to use.
  • Encourage students to attend after academy intervention
  • Are all homework’s being completed? (They are posted on satchel one)
  • Help to schedule their week. A balance of purposeful revision and relaxation is important.
  • Encourage, encourage and encourage! Parental support has a meaningful impact upon students willingness to engage with school and revision.
  • Helping them to keep regular sleep routines and talking to them about the exams and any concerns they have.
  • Making sure that they attend the Academy daily and communicating with Miss Thorne (Year 11 pastoral leader) if there are any barriers to attendance and learning that we need to be aware of (contact via[email protected])

Intervention Timetable

How much revision should my child be doing?

  • Year 11 should be revising every day for short periods of time. We recommend that students do blocks of 30 – 45 minutes at a time and spread their subjects across a week. (15 hours of extra work per week should be a target).
  • Year 11 are also set homework to complete via Show My Homework which specifies key priorities for revision.

How should my child revise? What is purposeful revision?

  • Revision should be active which means not re-reading past notes or textbooks. Past papers, online quizzes and flashcards are the methods that we recommend. Your child will be given a pack of printed past papers by us to use at home.

How can I help If I am not a subject expert?

  • Ensuring that your child is setting aside time every day to revise without distractions such as their phone or other devices.
  • Helping them to keep regular sleep routines and talking to them about the exams and any concerns they have.
  • Making sure that they attend the Academy daily and communicating with Miss Thorne (Year 11 pastoral leader) if there are any barriers to attendance and learning that we need to be aware of (contact via [email protected])

Will there be a leavers event?

Yes, and this will be on Friday 20th June in the morning. Times and more detailed plans will be released nearer the time.

If you have any queries or concerns about any of the above, then please do not hesitate to get in contact using the contact details shared on page 1 of this letter.

Kind regards

Josh Hocking
