PE Fixtures – Spectators

Dear Parents/Carers,

Following your feedback, we are looking to support parents/carers to attend PE fixtures at the Academy so that you can watch your child represent Hanham Woods.

Being able to provide a calm, safe environment for parents/carers to watch fixtures onsite requires additional staffing capacity, as it is not something PE teachers can manage whilst leading a fixture and coaching a team. With this in mind, we will not be able to support parents/carers coming on site for every fixture but will communicate in advance to let you know which fixtures will be accepting spectators, starting with National Cup football fixtures on:

  • Wednesday 1st November 2023 / Year 8 National Cup football fixture:
    • Parents/Carers wishing to spectate, should arrive at 15:05 for a 15:15 kick off.
  • Monday 6th November 2023 / Year 10 Year 8 National Cup football fixture:
    • Parents/Carers wishing to spectate, should arrive at 13:50 for a 14:00 kick off.
  • Wednesday 8th November 2023 / Year 9 National Cup football fixture:
    • -Parents/Carers wishing to spectate, should arrive at 13:50 for a 14:00 kick off.

We have adopted and fully support the FA’s Code of Conduct (for more information, click here: https://www.englandfootball.com/participate/explore/inclusive-football/Respect. We expect all parents/carers who choose to attend a fixture at the Academy to:

  • remain outside the field of play and behind the Designated Spectators’ Area (where provided);
  • never engage in, or tolerate offensive, insulting or abusive language or behaviour;
  • always respect the match officials’ and coaches’ decisions;
  • applaud effort and good play as well as success.

In addition, when attending youth games, all parents/carers will:

  • remember that this should be an enjoyable experience for students;
  • let the coaches do their job and not confuse the players by telling them what to do;
  • encourage the players to respect the opposition and match officials;
  • never criticise a player for making a mistake – mistakes are part of learning.

Failure to abide by the code of conduct above may result in you being asked to leave the Academy site. We want everyone involved to enjoy fixtures and support their children, but we need to ensure this happens in a safe and supportive environment.

How to sign up to spectate at an upcoming fixture:

If your child is playing in one of the fixtures outlined above and you would like to spectate, please can you:

  • Complete this short form prior to the fixture: https://forms.office.com/e/HAesdSkN2d
  • Aim to get to the Academy on foot, as there is no parking available on site.
  • Arrive to the side gate (see map below) at the designated arrival time where you will be met by a member of staff and signed in, before being led up to the designated spectator area:

  • Remain in the designated spectator area (roped off area) during the entirety of the fixture before leaving site at the end of the fixture.

For future fixtures (not listed above) we will endeavour to contact the parents/carers of those students involved, to advise which fixtures we have capacity to invite spectators to attend.

I look forward to seeing you at the Academy to support the sporting endeavours of our students!

Yours sincerely

Mr S O’Callaghan | Academy Principal
