Academy Update: Academy Principal

Dear Parents and Carers

You may already be aware that prior to the Easter break, the Academy Principal, Mr O’Callaghan, became unwell. As is usual when a Principal is unable to be in work, the Academy was led by the Vice Principal, Mrs Tushingham. We have been in regular contact with Mr O’Callaghan during his absence to check in and pass on the well wishes of students and staff. Unfortunately, he remains unwell and we expect that he may be away from the Academy for the remainder of Term 5.

Whilst deputising for the Principal is a designated part of the Vice Principal’s role, I’m sure you will understand that over a longer period of unplanned absence this does become more challenging in terms of capacity, so you will be pleased to know that Mrs Tushingham has been receiving additional support from colleagues at the Cabot Learning Federation.

As a Principal in one of our neighbouring CLF South Gloucestershire schools, King’s Oak Academy, I have been one of the leaders based at Hanham Woods regularly this term. Together we are working alongside the Senior Leadership Team and wider staff body to ensure continuity of leadership and to maintain the positive momentum, high expectations and strong standards we hold for every child. It has been a pleasure getting to know your child and seeing them working hard, being kind and representing the Hanaham Woods community so positively – whether in lessons, during extra-curricular activities, or out in the wider local neighbourhood.

As more information becomes available to me, I will endeavour to keep colleagues, students and families updated; in the meantime, thank you for your well wishes to Mr O’Callaghan and as always for your continued support for Hanham Woods Academy.

If you have any questions about this update, please email [email protected]

Yours faithfully

Miss Katherine Ogden | Senior Principal, Cabot Learning Federation
