Academy Update – Term 2, Week 6

Dear Parents / Carers, 

New SENCO 

I am writing to let you know that, after many years of service and contribution to the Education sector in the South West, Mrs McDermott will be retiring from her post as SENCO at Hanham Woods Academy at the end of this term.

Mrs McDermott has made a significant impact to the SEND provision at Hanham Woods Academy and I’m sure you will join me in wishing her the very best of luck for her future endeavours. 

I am delighted to let you know that we have been successful in recruiting a new SENCO in Mrs Hathway who will be joining us in January from a secondary school in the area where she is currently a secondary SENCO. The transition process for Mrs Hathway has already started (with a clear plan in place to support the change) with several visits to the Academy and more lined up before the end of term. We will be organising events at the start of next term for Parents/Carers to come in and meet Mrs Hathway (more information to follow).

End of term arrangements 

As we approach the end of Term 2 I wanted to inform you of our end of term arrangements. 

During the final week of term students will get the opportunity to engage with: 

  • Rewards assemblies 
  • Staff Panto 
  • Inter-house competitions 
  • Christmas dinner on Wednesday 13th December 
  • Non-uniform / Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 15th December (£1 donation)  

On the final day of term (Friday 15th December) Students will be dismissed at midday following normal lessons Period 1 and 2 and then extended tutor time during Period 3.  

If your child is entitled to free school meals and would like to claim a packed lunch to take home on the final day of term, please complete this short form:   Free School Meal Packed Lunch Order  

Looking ahead to Term 3, students will return to the Academy on Wednesday 3rd January 2024. 

I will write to you again next week with more details regarding the end of term 2 / start of term 3 arrangements.
