Children’s Mental Health Week: 1st -7th February 2021

Dear Parents/Carers

Children’s Mental Health week runs between 1st and 7th February 2021 and we will be making available some time during this week, and beyond, for our young people to take stock and think about their mental health. In particular, we want to reduce screen time and increase exercise.

The theme of the week is to explore the different ways we can express ourselves, and the creative ways that we can share our feelings, our thoughts and our ideas.

In order for this to happen, students in Years7, 8 and 9 are following a slightly different timetable for the week commencing 1st February. They will still complete their core lessons of English, Maths, Science and PE, but their foundation subjects will be suspended for one week in order for them to focus on a daily student leadership project. This is a project that promotes a variety of skills such as independence, creativity and planning, all within tasks that can be done away from the screen. In addition, we are really pushing Physical Education sessions during this week, and encourage you and your family, where possible, to attempt to do these together. The timetable can be found as usual on Show My Homework (SMHW).

For students in Years 10 and 11, they will continue their lessons as per their normal timetable. Year 10 will be starting their assessments during this week, for which they are already being prepared by their teachers. In addition, Year 11 will continue to follow their lessons as normal. However, they will have access to live assemblies all week, which will have a focus on mental health. We would also encourage students in Years 10 and 11 to undertake exercise each day.

Children’s Mental Health week was launched with students in a live assembly on 29th January, therefore, they know what to expect. Please do make sure they are logging into the live assemblies each day, as they do provide key messages for students about the day and week’s sessions and events.

Should you have any questions in relation to the above, or any feedback, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Yours sincerely
