European Day of Languages – Monday 26th September 2022
Dear Parents/Carers
Every year, on 26th September we celebrate the European day of Languages (EDL). All over the EU, throughout September and October, numerous events are organised to showcase the linguistic richness of Europe as well as to honour and to promote multilingualism and language learning.
The European Day of Languages provides an excellent opportunity to celebrate languages and explore other cultures.
Language learning brings huge benefits to students – and the event is aimed at encouraging students to enjoy the opportunities language learning provides.
If you would like to know more about The European Day of Language and take part in more activities and enter a competition, please go to: European Day of Languages > Home (ecml.at)
There are also some interesting videos you can watch about the importance of languages and address some misconceptions about language learning: European Day of Languages > Facts > Questions you never dared to ask about languages (ecml.at)
This year, at Hanham Woods Academy, we are celebrating the day with a lot of exciting activities which will bring all students and staff together to embrace the diversity and beauty of languages.
- During tutor time, students will learn about European languages and there will be an exciting tutor group quiz competition.
- MFL lessons will not only be in French and Spanish but will include a wide variety of European Languages and explore the importance of languages.
- The whole Academy will be decorated with European flags, posters , pictures of European monuments and information about languages.
- Breaktime and lunchtime food will be a little different, students and staff will be able to enjoy some European delicacies.
Thank you for your continued support.
