GCSE Poetry Live at The Forum, Bath – Wednesday 5th February 2025

Dear Parent/Carer

We will be running a trip to see ‘GCSE Poetry Live’ on Wednesday 5th February 2025, and would like to offer your child the opportunity to take part in this visit. This Anthology is a set text for the GCSE English Literature Paper 2 (Modern Texts and Poetry) exam.

The event involves:

  • Poets reading and discussing their poetry from the AQA GCSE Anthology, such as Simon Armitage, Carol Ann Duffy, John Agard and Imtiaz Dharker.
  • AQA Chief Examiners who will present how to be successful in the exam.

We are very fortunate to be able to get tickets for this touring event but as tickets are limited (100), they will be allocated to those on a first come, first served basis.

The performance starts at 10.45am, and we will leave by coach from the Academy at 9.30am. We will be returning at the end of the performance and should be back at Hanham Woods Academy by 4.15pm. Students will need to wear full Academy uniform and bring a packed lunch. Students must conform to Academy rules throughout the trip and must under no circumstances leave the venue unless instructed to by a member of staff.

Voluntary contributions are necessary if this visit is to take place. The amount required in order to fund this visit is £30.00 per student. No student will be omitted from the visit should the voluntary contribution not be paid. However, we do need to cover the financial costs of the trip and if the cost is not covered, the trip will be cancelled.

If you would like your child to take part in this trip, please complete the online reply slip and pay £30.00 by noon on Monday 2nd December using the online payment system which can be found at: Academy Online Payments .  PLEASE NOTE THE ONLINE PAYMENTS SYSTEM WILL NOT BE OPEN UNTIL THURSDAY 7TH NOVEMBER 2024

You will also need to complete an Essential Information and Medical Form using the following link: Poetry Live Essential Information and Medical Form.  This needs to be completed by Monday 2nd December.

If your child is in receipt of Pupil Premium, the full cost of this trip will be covered.
