Online Safety – Social Media

Dear Parents/Carers

We are aware that malicious Hanham Woods Academy social media (TikTok) accounts were created this week and used to share images or videos of members of staff who work in our Academy.

We have reported the accounts to the service providers identified above and logged the accounts under the Communications Act: Improper use of public electronic communications network with the Police. We have also sought to identify the owners of the accounts to ensure that the pages are removed and appropriate consequences issued.

This weekend, we urge all parents/carers to discuss with children the importance of staying safe online and appropriate social media use, check that any inappropriate material has been deleted from their phone, their social media ‘privacy settings’ are high and that they are using secure passwords.

Below you will find some parent/carer resources to help with these conversations:

Thank you for your on-going support and efforts to keep the students in our community safe online.

Kind regards
