Term 1 – Week 1 Update – September 2024

Dear Parents / Carers,

Thank you for your support in ensuring a strong start to the academic year! It’s been great to welcome students back this week, provide induction for all Year Groups and getting back to learning. All Year Groups have made a positive start to the term (with well over 1000 positive points awarded already) and our new Year 7 students have quickly adapted to their time at Hanham Woods, excelling in their first inter-house competition earlier in the week!

The letter contains some important reminders about:

  • Attendance – Everyday counts!
  • Access to the car park at the end of the Academy day
  • Uniform expectations

Attendance – Everyday counts!

Term 1 - Week 1 Update - September 2024

All Year Groups have made a strong start, however it’s important we continue to support students once the initial back to school excitement has worn off. One of the largest contributing factors to a young person’s academic success is maintaining high attendance across the year and not missing learning. Registers now close at 09:00 which means arrival after this point is classified as one session of absence.

We want to actively work with you to support great attendance, understanding that each student is different and that support will need to be bespoke to the child. If you require support please do reach out to your child’s Year Team:

Access to the car park at the end of the Academy Day

This is a polite reminder regarding access to the Academy site:

  • At no point during the Academy Day should cars be parked on the double yellow lines on the roundabout just inside the main gates.
  • At the end of the day between 14:57 and 15:07 the main gates will remain closed to allow all students to leave safely. Cars in the car park during this time must stay there until students have left, and it is safe for cars to move.
  • Please be respectful of residents when parking / dropping off close to the Academy to ensure they retain access to their properties.

Uniform Expectations

Thank you for taking the time to support our uniform policy at the start of the year. Students look exceptionally smart and it’s important we maintain these high standards throughout the entire year. Our Culture of high expectations (and support) relies upon standards being upheld, which drives a positive culture across all areas of the Academy, helping to give students the best chance of success.

Key Uniform Reminders:

  • Skirts must be double pleated and to the knee
  • Only jewellery allowed is single nose stud and single pair of stud earrings in the lobe.
  • All jewellery to be removed completely for PE – taping is not allowed.
  • False nails and false eyelashes are not allowed.
  • Only jumper allowed is V neck. PE Fleece only to be worn in PE lessons.
  • Please ensure your child has an appropriate waterproof coat with them. Several students have been caught out by the weather this week.
