Y10 Summer Exams

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we approach the final week of term 5, I wanted to make you aware of the end of year examinations that will be taking place from Monday 23rd June until the 3rd July. This will be an important period of time for the students as it will give them specific actionable feedback on their current level of knowledge in each of their subjects. This is the first iteration of their Pre Public Examinations (PPE’s or Mocks) and will be followed by another round in October / November and then again in February ahead of their final Summer Exams this time next year.

Below I have detailed all of the key information and some answers to common questions that you may have around this process.

When is each exam taking place?

Give the tight turnaround between year 11 and the end of the academic year, the exams are always in a condensed format. Multiple exams are scheduled for each (day this is also common in the year 11 summer exams as well) but we have had to put 3 exams on a few days due to inset days. The dates are shared below.

Where is each exam taking place?

Most students will be completing their exams in the Gym, Library or the room next to this. To mimic the experience of the summer exams these are the exact same locations that will be used then.

How will my child know when each exam is and where it will take place?

Students will have an assembly from me outlining the assessments and what will be involved. They will receive a personalised timetable which contains the exams, rooming’s and seat numbers.

My child is on a Geography trip during the assessment period.

We are aware that there is a Geography trip running during the exam period (Wednesday 25th June). This will only impact a couple of exams and so we will be rearranging the missed exams and slotting these in where students have a free slot for those impacted where practical.

What can I do to help my child prepare?

Students will invariably find these assessments intense and challenging. Your support from home will be vital in ensuring your child has the best possible preparation. To aid this please:

  • Ensure they have a quiet and calm space to do some revision. Revision tasks will be shared by teachers and put on Satchel One for you to see.
  • Double check that your child has all of the necessary equipment at home. Pens, pencils, ruler, calculator (from Maths and Science) as well as a protractor and compass for Maths.
  • Offer lots of encouragement and reassurance throughout the exam period
  • Ensure they have eaten well and are hydrated before coming to school
