Year 11 Events
Dear Parents/Carers
Prom: Following the Government announcement on Monday 14th June 2021 slowing down the lifting of restrictions and unlocking of society, and having consulted with the venue we were using for Year 11 Prom, we are in the very sad position of having to cancel this important event scheduled for Thursday 8th July. I am genuinely sorry we cannot hold this event for our amazing students; however, we are currently exploring the possibility of hosting either a short social function or a ‘virtual’ prom on 8th July, making use of the technology available to us; this would allow students to use their booked transport, wear their dresses and suits already purchased, and have some photographs with their friends. If this is at all possible, we will contact you shortly with arrangements.
Leavers Event: Due to the current rapidly increasing infection rate in South Gloucestershire, we have also been advised to avoid bringing Year 11 students back onto the Academy site in large numbers for an indoor leavers event. Whilst we were planning on making outdoor arrangements, with the inclement weather forecast later this week we are not able to hold the leavers event this week. Again, we are exploring the possibility of an alternative, possibly at a later date, to allow Year 11 to say goodbye to friends and staff. Once we have found a workable alternative we will communicate the details.
On a more positive note, teachers have completed the process of awarding students their Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs). These grades are being submitted to exam boards this week and reflect a holistic view of each student based on the evidence available. I will write with details of results day and the appeals process before the end of the academic year.
I know there will be disappointment and some frustration in relation to the Prom and Leavers Event, however, I am sure you will understand that my priority has to be the safety of the young people, their families, staff at the Academy and the community as a whole.
When I have more information in relation to the above, I will write further.
Yours sincerely
Mr S T Kneller | Academy Principal
