Year 11 Leavers Letter
Dear Parents/Carers
Further to my letter last week I can now confirm that Friday 18th June 2021 will be Year 11 students’ last day. We have selected this date as it is the last possible date teachers can enter their assessed grades for Year 11 students.
Some students need to complete further assessments that are missing from their ‘evidence basket’ – the evidence used to award Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs). All students have the opportunity to receive feedback on their most recent assessments with a view to improving their work. Some need additional support in relation to careers and next steps after they leave Hanham Woods Academy. All need to remain in learning, which is inherently good for them and will have a positive impact on their futures. We will be asking students to sign a student declaration to say they understand how TAGs are being awarded and what evidence is being used. They will continue to receive input on this next week.
With all this in mind, students will move to a combination of onsite and distance learning in the time between 7th and 18th June. We will provide a structured and timetabled online learning programme including preparation for Post-16 study and careers input. There will also be content to study for all subjects. All of this will be published on the website. (Working from Home: Year 11 section). Some students will be invited onto site to complete this and other work during these dates.
We would also like to support students to have some celebration of their time at Hanham Woods Academy. We will be inviting students to attend a celebration event, on 17th or 18th June, where students can sign shirts and celebrate their time at Hanham Woods coming to an end. We are also awaiting delivery of their Leavers Hoodies which we will distribute as soon as we receive them from the suppliers.
The Academy Prom is booked at The Grange Hotel in Winterbourne and we are still planning for this to go ahead on Thursday 8th July, but of course must be mindful of the Pandemic Road Map. We are continuing with our planning within the Academy and will communicate with you if we must change any of our plans. There is still an opportunity for your son/daughter to join us if you haven’t yet paid for their ticket or for the Year Book; you can pay this through the website. We would also ask that if you have yet to pay for the full ticket or book that you do so before the 28th June. If we must, for any reason, cancel the event you will receive a full refund of any monies paid to us for the Prom; however, the Year Book would still be printed as a memento of the students’ time at Hanham Woods.
Our pastoral support of Year 11 students will remain in place up to 18th June (and afterwards should this be required). Mrs Tushingham and Mrs Harris are the assigned senior members of staff for pastoral support for Year 11 – please contact them in the first instance should your child require any further support.
