Year 11 Interventions and PPEs

Dear Parents / Carers, 

As you will know, we are now 10 Academy days away from Year 11 students completing their final round of Pre-Public Exams [PPEs]. We have been incredibly impressed with how well Year 11 students returned to the Academy in September and the progress they have made over the last two terms, but there is still work to do to ensure we give them the best chance of success. 

In the Academy we continue to provide: 

  • Well sequenced lessons in each subject that focus on key areas of GCSE specifications and exam skills;
  • Morning meetings during tutor time which enable large group teaching of key concepts in English, Maths and Science (this was put in place as a result of feedback from students);
  • After Academy interventions for each subject that is timetabled across the week (this includes a quiet space to study in the library); 
  • Careers guidance through 1-to-1 sessions; 
  • Clear information, updates and messages delivered through whole Year Group assemblies;
  • Pastoral support focused on mental health and wellbeing. 

How you can help: 

  • Ensure students attend the Academy every day; 
  • Ensure students have a quiet place to revise at home; 
  • Encourage students to attend after Academy intervention sessions. 
  • Contact the Academy if you have any concerns or would like support

I also wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that Mrs Burt will be leaving towards the end of term (students were made aware this morning in assembly). Although we are sad to see her go, we are also proud of how she has progressed in her time at Hanham and the experience that she has gained which has enabled her to secure a promotion to a new role outside of the Academy. I want to reassure you that Year 11 will continue to have a team of people around them to provide support including: 

  • Mrs Tushingham (Assistant Principal) 
  • Mrs Hendra (Vice Principal) 
  • Mrs Thurston (Senior Pastoral Leader)
