Year 11 Results Day and Appeals
Dear Parents/Carers of Year 11 Students
This will be my final letter to you as Principal of Hanham Woods Academy. I wanted to thank you for your support, challenge and loyalty over the last 5 years and wish you every success for the future.
You will know that we have submitted Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs) for all Year 11 students in all the subjects they have been entered for. A vast amount of internal scrutiny was undertaken ahead of submitting these grades to ensure the grades submitted were a holistic view of your child’s attainment based on the evidence we have. In the vast majority of cases the evidence used is:
- Pre-Public Exam (PPE) grade in November 2020
- Assessment point 1 scores in February / March 2021
- Assessment point 2 scores in May / June 2021
- Any coursework for a specific subject
In some cases we have looked back to Year 10 PPE grades or additional classwork / homework pieces
These grades are now with exam boards for external scrutiny.
Results will be issued on Thursday 12th August. Your child can collect their results from the Main Hall at the Academy from 9:30am. We will need to have staggered collection of results to avoid over-crowding, therefore, we would ask you to use the following links to book a time for your child to collect their results. There will be many staff around on that day to discuss any questions your child may have about their results and to offer support about next steps.
There are two sessions for results collection: 9.30am-10.45am or 11am-12.30pm.
To collect between 9.30am and 10.45am please use the following link:

Booking for this event will close on 11th August 2021 at 12pm
We are offering a booked time for you to come and collect your results only; you are not booking a time to discuss these results. The reason that you are booking a time to collect your results is so we can adhere to the rules of social distancing, and to protect yourself, your family and the wider community. However, should you wish to discuss your results further, then there will be a number of members of staff on site to help you and answer any questions you may have.
NB: If you are shielding and do not want to enter the Academy, then results can be posted home to you providing you send a self-addressed envelope to the Academy addressed to the Exams Officers (Sara Partridge and Sue Smith) at: Hanham Woods Academy, Memorial Road, Hanham, Bristol BS15 3LA
This is in line with government guidance on the handling of post. We are unable to post results home without a self-addressed envelope.
What to do on 12th August 2021:
We will be adhering to the government guidance on social distancing during this time and to aid you with this, there will be many signs, staff and guidance to follow upon arrival. In addition, there will be markers on the floor of the Academy to help you keep a track of the desired 2m-distance requirement.
In order to ensure staff and visitors to site are kept safe, please follow the instructions below:
- Arrive at the Academy in line with the time of your appointment. Please do not be late as there will be someone there to meet you.
- You will be taken to the Main Hall to collect your results from the allocated member of staff.
- Once your results have been collected, you are free to depart the Academy.
- Please ensure that you do not congregate in groups on site, but follow staff directions about leaving the Academy safely.
- There are staff on site to discuss results and next steps with you, should you desire.
NB: The information above is subject to change following infection rates and government guidance. Please refer to our Academy website on the lead up to Results day for further information.
The government have established an appeals process should your child be unhappy with the grades they have received. The first part of the appeals process is for the Academy to make an administrative and procedural check known as a Centre Review. The second part is for the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) to undertake a check: this entails us sending off the evidence we have used to reach the decision on the grade awarded and they would check the accuracy of this judgement. This is referred to as the Appeal. If you wish to request a Centre review or appeal you should email [email protected] stating your child’s name and the subject(s) they wish to appeal the grades in – only a student can appeal their grades. You will then be directed to a form to complete. Once you submit this form the Academy will initiate the Centre review and communicate with you about the ongoing process.
I look forward to seeing all Year 11 students on results day.
Yours sincerely
Mr S T Kneller | Academy Principal
