Year 8 Blended Learning (including Timetable and Planner)

Dear Parents/Carers

As you may be aware, we have recently started some trials of ‘live’ or ‘real time’ lessons and assemblies.  These have proved to be well received by those who have participated. It has enhanced the connection between staff and students, allowing both a timely ‘check-in’ with students and setting up successful online learning for the rest of the day/week.

Whilst there is no evidence to suggest live lessons are more beneficial in learning or progress terms, it is important that we continue to develop this new blended learning approach (combination of pre-recorded and live lessons) alongside daily staffing requirements for our on-site provision for key worker children. To this end, we are now in a position to offer a more comprehensive offer for live input from this week forwards.

Below you will find links to two documents:

Y8 Blended Learning Timetable

  • This provides an overview of the lessons your son/daughter can expect to see on Show My Homework (SMHW) each day. Some of these lessons will continue to be pre-recorded (in the format you have become accustomed to) whereas some of these lessons will now feature as live.

Y8 Blended Learning Planner

  • This provides an overview of the precise classes offering live lessons with full details of days/times. We will continue to review this offer and will post an update of the ‘Y8 Blended Lesson Planner’ on the SMHW notice board every Monday so you can plan for the week ahead accordingly.

Please refer to these documents for reference initially this week, but rest assured that all lessons regardless of their delivery method will be posted daily on SMHW in the task section.  If your son/daughter is working to the timetable prescribed by us, then these lessons will be easily accessible each day.

Daily ‘Smart Start Live’ assemblies.

Our daily ‘Smart Start Live’ assemblies continue to start at 8.45am every day. As with live lessons, a link to the Microsoft Teams event will be available on SMHW in the task section each day. Attendance to both live lessons and live smart start assemblies is compulsory.

To be able to access the live features of our blended learning offer, it is important that students have access to their Office 365 logins. If you are still struggling with access, please follow the guidance outlined here to resolve: https://hanhamwoodsacademy.clf.uk/letters/live-assembly-access-using-microsoft-teams/

If you have any questions regarding any aspect or this new blended learning offer, then please do not hesitate to contact me via email [email protected].

Yours sincerely

Mrs Sara Hutchinson | Assistant Principal
