Year 9 Assessments – Access Arrangements for Specific Students
PLEASE NOTE: This communication is only for specifically named students who have been messaged the link to this letter. If you have not been messaged then this information does not relate to your child
Dear Parent/Carers
End of year Assessments in Maths and Science will take place on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th June under exam hall conditions. Through discussion with our SENCO, I would like to trial the use of an access arrangement for your child during this assessment.
The SENCO will also have to find evidence in standardised tests for these arrangements to be finalised for the GCSEs.
If a student has a medical diagnosis, i.e., Autism, or ADHD, the student will still need to evidence that they need extra time in assessments, by using it when offered.
Using these arrangements can help to evidence their need.
This will be one of the following:
25% Extra Time
The Extra time is tagged on to the end of the exam and does not have to be taken if the candidate feels they do not need it, but we would remind candidates that if it is not used then we may not be able to offer it on the external exams.
Reading Pen
The use of an examination reading pen might benefit candidates who only require occasional words or phrases to be read to them. An examination reading pen may be used in papers (or sections of papers) testing reading.
Laptop
The use of a word processor must reflect the candidate’s normal way of working within the classroom. A word processor may also be used due handwriting being hard to decipher.
This is an initial trial of using an access arrangement to support your child in being fully able to demonstrate their skill, knowledge and understanding during an assessment. Successful use of their access arrangement on this occasion will provide a good indication to us that your child will benefit from further trials of having this arrangement applied to year 10 PPE assessments.
