Pupil Premium GCSE Support Letter

Dear Parents/Carers,

I’m writing to you as academic lead for Year 11, to share with you the support that we have on offer for your child as a recipient of pupil premium funding. Supporting your child achieve grades 9-5 across all their subjects is hugely important to us because having these qualifications opens the doorway to success both now and for the rest of their lives. The support that your child will receive following their February PPEs is as follows:

Laptop Loan

We would like to offer your child the loan of an Academy laptop between now and the end of their GCSEs. This will support them in accessing online revision platforms and completing homework. If you would like your child to receive a laptop, please email [email protected]

Revision Guides

We have already provided all of our pupil premium students with free revision guides for core subjects. If your child has lost any copies or for any reason did not receive them initially, please contact [email protected] with the guides that they are missing, and we will issue/replace them.

Mentoring

Your child will be supported with a weekly one to one or small group mentoring session with either their tutor or pastoral leader to discuss lessons, homework, revision and their general wellbeing. You can expect to be contacted regularly with updates on achievements, target setting and any concerns.

If there is any support or guidance that you feel your child would particularly benefit from to support them in attending, learning, revising or stress management please let us know – we appreciate feedback and, where possible, will try to action any requests to support your child during this important run up to GCSEs.

Frequently asked questions:

How much revision should my child be doing?

  • Year 11 should be revising every day for short periods of time. We recommend that students do 2 blocks of 30 minutes each day and work their way through their subjects across a week.
  • Year 11 are also set homework to complete via Show My Homework. Your parent code for accessing this platform is included with this letter.

How should my child revise?

  • Revision should be active, which means not re-reading past notes or textbooks. Past papers, online quizzes and flashcards are the methods that we recommend. Your child will be given a pack of printed past papers by us to use at home.

How can I help if I am not a subject expert?

  • Ensuring that your child is setting aside time every day to revise without distractions such as their phone or other devices.
  • Helping them to keep regular sleep routines and talking to them about the exams and any concerns they have.
  • Making sure that they attend the Academy daily and communicating with Miss Foley, Year 11 Pastoral Leader if there are any barriers to attendance and learning that we need to be aware of (contact via [email protected])

Feel free to contact me or Miss Foley with any queries. You will receive further contact soon via telephone or email to introduce your child’s mentor.

Yours sincerely
