Y9 Options Update

Dear Parents / Carers,

Thank you for your support with the Year 9 Options process this year. This letter is to update you on our current progress.

There has been a delay to this process due to DT food being over subscribed for the number of places (40 maximum available). Students will be selected for this course using career aspiration information. We will then need to select remaining students for the course by drawing names randomly. If your child has changed their mind about taking DT food and they now want to take their second choice, please inform me as soon as possible as this would help in the process.

I am having one-to-one conversations with students where their first-choice option is no longer available and having discussions about their second choice. For many students this has been a straightforward swap, for others they have asked for more time to discuss with parents/ carers.  If you would like to have a phone call, please contact me by email ([email protected]) to arrange a date and time. Face-to-face meetings can also be arranged if needed.

If you do not hear from us over the next couple of weeks, and your child has not had one of these meetings, you can assume that your child has had their first choices accepted.

All parent/carers will receive a letter confirming their child’s choices by the fifth week of this term.

Below is a revised timeline for the Options process.

Term 5·         Week 1 and 2 Mrs Gardner has one-to-one meetings with students affected by classes no longer running. Phone calls and face-to-face meetings are available into week 3.

·         Week 3 DT food names chosen and confirmed with students and parent/carers

·         Start of week 4: any changes to options need to be confirmed by parent/carers and students by Tuesday 7th May

·         Week 4 Mrs Gardner meeting with all year 9 students to ensure all choices are correct

·         Week 5 letter goes home confirming choices.

·         Staff at HWA can start building timetables for next academic year.

Term 6·         Final assessments of year 9 further information will be given in term 6.
