Year 10 Work Experience 17 April – 21 April 2023

Dear Parent/Carer,

We are pleased to announce that students in Year 10 are invited to take part in a week of work experience in Term 5: 17 April – 21 April 2023.

Work experience is hugely beneficial for young people – it is a chance to explore a career path they are interested in whilst building transferable skills. Our aim is for all students to successfully attend work experience during the identified week, working for the full five days (Monday to Friday) within a work-based setting and in a placement that they have organised.  With this in mind, students are expected to find and secure their own placements. We appreciate that, for many students, this is a new and challenging task, therefore, we will assist them as much as we possibly can.

To help students prepare for this, the concept of work experience has been an ongoing topic in tutor time.  This term, we are dedicating weekly sessions in tutor to finding work experience. Each student will be provided with a printed Work Experience (WEX) Preparation booklet to aid them in finding work experience as well as providing them with the best chance of success whilst on their WEX placement.

To support parents/carers, please find a link to our careers page below, where you will be able to locate the following documents under the ‘Work Experience’ tab:

  1. Work Experience Preparation Booklet
  2. A Work Placement Agreement Form (to complete and return once a placement is secured)
  3. Online Confirmation Form to complete, with the Agreement Form
  4. A list of companies, previous students have taken work experience at

The deadline date to confirm the placement and return the work experience agreement form is Friday 24th February – this is to allow for due diligence to be made. Due to high demand, it is advisable to aim to have a placement secured as soon as possible. We are keen to support students and parents/carers through this exciting process; please get in touch with Sade Mujkic, Careers Lead at the Academy for support, guidance and advice.  Sade can be contacted by emailing [email protected]

It is worth noting that not all companies take work experience students, therefore it is wise to gather a list of companies that your child might be interested in working at as back-ups. There are always opportunities, therefore, keeping options open is recommended. Skills transferability from the work experience is what is important.

Please note you can apply to any employer. All placements require a Duty of Care check which the Academy will organise.

Finally, we will be unable to authorise students going out on WEX placements on any other than the identified week of 17th – 21st April – this is to protect students’ progress in lessons during this important first year of GCSEs.

Yours sincerely

Miss S Mujkic | CEIAG Coordinator
